TRF Over the Years
Not years, more like months. I've been doing signature-making since late September. Here's what I've done and how I've progressed:
Fast-forward to now:
So . . . how have you progressed in the art of sig-making? Feel free to show your work over the years, months, weeks, hours, etc., however long you've been doing it.
-This one receive so much negative reception. It was literally my first time using GIMP, but everyone thought I was using Paint.
-This was my first time learning how to cut out graphics using the free-select tool. As you can see, I didn't do a very good job of accurately cutting out the render.
-This was my first time playing with the transparency of my render. It actually came in second place in a contest, surprisingly.
-This was when I first learned how to make a border. I thought it'd look cool if I put text on the edge of the border so as to give it a 3D effect.
-This was me trying to culminate all I had previously learned into one sig. I was originally super-proud of it, but further examination revealed to me that this is a total piece of crap..
-Me playing with transparency again. I wanted it to look wasteland-esque, but it ended up looking like garbage. I didn't even realize how bad it looked until I moved over to my laptop, which had a brighter screen.
-This was my first time playing with lighting. The problem was, no one could recognize what the render was of (many said Darth Vader).
-I don't even remember how I achieved this. I think I just fiddled with the coloring tools until I got this. Too much bright red in my, well EVERYONE'S, opinion.
-My first time using transparency to bypass having to cut out the blood splatter.
Fast-forward to now:
-This was the result of the first tutorial I followed. The tutorial used a Koopa, not Zero Suit Samus, but I applied the steps to my own creation. I learned to use Overlay in this tutorial.
-My first time using motion blur to add a flow to my background, or however much is showing, rather.
-My first time using gradient maps and experimenting with layer modes other than Overlay
-This was my first time using plain brushes against a black background, which I think can strangely work well.
-My first time using "Grow" to create a suitable text and render border.
-My latest signature, utilizing gradient maps and brush on black background technique, as well as Grow to create a text border.
So . . . how have you progressed in the art of sig-making? Feel free to show your work over the years, months, weeks, hours, etc., however long you've been doing it.
Re: TRF Over the Years
Well, you have gotten a lot better since you first started.
In my opinion that is your best sig I've seen.
You have gotten pretty good fast. Most of your sigs aren't my style though. They still are good.
I don't, honestly.-This was my first time using plain brushes against a black background, which I think can strangely work well.

Thanks for the input. I encourage you to do something similar. I'm sure your progress is much more interesting since you've been doing this longer than me and you're better at it.Nivael wrote:Well, you have gotten a lot better since you first started.I don't, honestly.-This was my first time using plain brushes against a black background, which I think can strangely work well.

I'd like to ask you a question. Can I use the Zero Suit Samus one? ^^!

Wow, sorry I didn't see this comment. Yes, you can use it (assuming you still want to), as long as you give credit.Sonji wrote:I'd like to ask you a question. Can I use the Zero Suit Samus one? ^^!

I think the Metroid one is the best.

I'll see. What dimensions do you want? If you don't care then I'll just do the dimensions I'm comfortable with.Zillah wrote:Yo, Can you make a Street Fighter Ken one? =]

Do you really think I give a fuck what dimensions it's in?
Re: TRF Over the Years
Better I ask now and get a response like that than risk having to start over if I do the wrong dimensions, y'know?Zillah wrote:ŦЯӺ wrote:I'll see. What dimensions do you want? I'll see what I can do, as long as your little "group" doesn't bother me.Angelus the Wraith wrote:La Insurgence insurges against abusive MODs.

Re: TRF Over the Years
I used a screenshot of a basketball game as a stock, then I used gaussian blur and then a zoomed motion blur. I added a radial orange/red layer on top and set the layer mode to either Dodge or Overlay (I can't remember which). The rest of it was composed of C4Ds and splatter brushes.Staticman2 wrote:question, how do u make cool back grounds my are usually super lame and boring?
I use GIMP, by the way.

Everybody, that Ken one is property of ZILLAH.
One day you gotta post a tutorial on here TRF so maybe I can be better. =}

I've been thinking about making one, but they do take quite a long time to make.Zillah wrote:Everybody, that Ken one is property of ZILLAH.
