True but those shipped numbers are paid titles by retailers. Now it's on retailers to sell those games. which eventually happens. Shipping goes down as retailers order less and less quantities based on how slow games sales get.

Eventually can mean up to 15 years though. Even some games that are rare or old can still have new unopened copies laying around somewhere. Like I bought a copy of Persona 3 FES like 3 months ago off of Ebay, and the game wasn't made in high production.

You won't find a new copy of P3FES on a shelf at Gamestop, but you could easily find a new copy of Prologue.

I still remember when Gran Turismo 5: Prologue came out and people were whining. "I am not paying $40 for a demo," they said in a disgusted, determined tone. Oh...but you are. And you did.

Prologue was one hell of a demo, featuring a ton of cars, four racing tiers, dozens of events, the garage, breathtaking visuals, and even updated content over time. And now, provided the information is correct, we can announce that this massive "demo" has topped 5 million total sales over the past few years. This is as of September 2010 and if you add in the 2 million sales of Gran Turismo PSP, the franchise has sold over 56 million units in its lifespan. That's, what...over 13 years of racing supremacy dating back to '97? I still remember when the original GT arrived on the PlayStation; it was quite the phenomenon and almost made me forget about my RPGs for a while. The only other series to do that during those days was Twisted Metal and the occasional Resident Evil. Oh, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, even if it was part-RPG to begin with.

But I'm slanting off on another tangent here. The point is, Prologue has sold quite a few copies, and I'm assuming that 5 million number includes PSN downloads. Obviously, this indicates the possibility of very high sales numbers for GT5, which released today...but then again, we already knew about that very real possibility.
