Demon's Souls discussion thread!
4 days after the game came out in Europe I drove into town to pick up a
copy of the Black Phantom Edition and my replacement PS3 slim in a deal.
The same deal was on at Smyths (a toy / game store) and Gamestop.
So
first I went to Smyths, scoured the shelves, couldn't find it, asked at
the checkout and they said they don't have it, haven't got it ordered,
isn't even on the 'coming soon' lists.
So I went to Gamestop,
found a box, turns out they don't have any copies right now. They only
got 4 copies on release day, in 3 days they sold out, put an order in
for more.
I've reserved a copy but it's been more than a week and
Bamco haven't delivered.
So, I checked play.com to see their
price.
Interestingly, it says 'Usually dispatched within 1 - 2
weeks'.
That's unusual so I did a search on 5 recent PS3 games as
they popped into my head - Fallout 3 GotY, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted
2, Bayonetta, Soul Calibur 4.
4 out of 5 said 'usually dispatched
within 24 hours', but Bayonetta said 'usually dispatched within 2 - 5
days'.
From what I've heard over on GameFAQs, there's shortages throughout continental Europe too. I'm so glad to hear this, as the online community is sure to keep growing, and it's a pretty decent seller (all stock is being depleted, well, the stock Bamco supply anyway), even with all the people that imported from the US!
Now to sit by the phone and hope it rings...

Re: Demon's Souls discussion thread!
The second best game in my collection, right beneath Uncharted 2.
This game is as manly as Bear Grylls.

The game is so addictive. You can spend hours on it and still feel like you've done hardly anything.

"4 copies on release date"
Sorry to say but this game is published by Atlus, they have very low expectations of RPG's selling outside of Japan. More likely they only released a small amount of copies in Europe.
According to VGchartz the game has sold around 55,000 copies in Europe.

Actually, no, its European publisher is Namco Bandai (Bamco), who have been pathetic this gen, both as publishers and developers. I have lost nearly all of my respect for them.

Really? I just looked up Atlus Published games on Vgchartz to find Demon's Souls so I assumed they published it in all regions.

Re: Demon's Souls discussion thread!
Demons Souls was really hard to find in the States when it first came out. I overheard the clerk at Gamestop say they only got enough copies for the people who pre-ordered.

Nope. They only published it in America, it was published by Namco Bandai in Europe and SCE published it in Japan.

Really? I saw a bunch of copies at my local Gamestop a few weeks ago. Used ones anyways, but there was a display box in the new game section too so I assume they have some new copies as well. At Wallmart even and they usually have a pretty pathetic game collection.

When I was in Florida last Christmas I saw DS secondhand.
In EB games.
For $60.

This game deserves high sales, but with that low amount of copies....

Re: Demon's Souls discussion thread!
Bamco probably thought the same as I did - what with the little advertising, early importers, and the fact it's a niche game, they assumed it wouldn't sell well.
Well, at least they know there's high demand.
