Gran Turismo 5 Optional Install takes up to 50 minutes.(Update)
Update:According to what is probably the biggest forum post on the game ever on GTPlanet from Amar212, the install for Gran Turismo 5 will take over 50 minutes to complete.
Amar claims his install was done in 40 minutes, though.
Not only that, the install will take up a massive 6.4Gb on your hard drive.
You may remember Amar provided these subtle hints to the game last April before its official unveil at E3 two months later.
Sony wrote:“GT5 gives users the option of an install. This makes loading times throughout much faster but is not a requirement when first playing.
If users choose not to install the data straight away it will do it in stages as news areas, tracks etc are accessed during normal game play.”

It was made a while ago...
But anyways. If the game runs faster, who cares?

50 minutes for a 6.4 GB install? WTF On the 360 it takes maybe 5 minutes to fully install a 7 GB game.

There is no game on Xbox 360 that can compare to "Gran Turismo 5" scale.
Even a tech fan like yourself should know that

Don't install it then.
Long installs isn't new.

You don't know crap. You think quality and quantity of the content is all related.
I'd imagine that the game is more or less 10 GBs of game content, and only 6.4 GBs of it can be installed onto the HDD. 6.4 GBs is 6.4 GBs of content, no matter what the game's quality is. 6.4 GBs in 50 minutes? That's rediculous. Some people's internet can install that faster.

You are going to eventually have to install it in chunks as you progress through the game.

Wait doesn't "Gran Turismo 5" uses the whole Blu-ray space?

Lol no. No racing game needs that much space.
Not even GT5, considering 800+ cars won't have any external customization or a rendered cockpit view.
EDIT:
10 GBs is a rough estimate. I don't imagine it being any higher than 14-15 GBs, and even that is alot of content.

Ah, does anyone really care about this? 5 years for one of the best driving games out there. I got better things to do in 50 mins anyway.

An 8GB game installs faster than 6.4GB install. More content is being installed. 50 minutes is a long time compared to 5 minutes. There is something messed up about that.

People's internet can download 6.4GB files in 50 minutes?
I should steal that super-computer's internet.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Optional Install takes up to 50 minutes.(Update)
What does the install have to do with the Internet? Aren't you installing that off the disc? I've installed 5GB to my 360 in less than half the time it takes to install GT5.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Optional Install takes up to 50 minutes.(Update)
That's pretty shitty... Thank God I don't like racing games...

It took me around 10-15 mins to install Mass Effect 2 (Both discs) which was 18.6 GBS. I really don't understand why this takes so fucking long.
And before anyone says something. . . . .
Installed Game > Un-installed Game

Some of you guys make it sound like you will have to do this everytime you put GT5 into your PS3.
Also its not a mandatory install.
And one more thing, its 50 mins...not a week. You could start installing it then go have a quick work-out or do some forum posting and come back when its done...you dont have to sit there and watch it install 1 byte at a time.

Yeah, it's not even mandatory. If you do it, YOU KNOW it's 50 mins.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Optional Install takes up to 50 minutes.(Update)
Almost an hour to install a game is ridiculous... What does the update do? Can u not take it online without it? If it's necessary to unlock the full game it's trash...
I dunno won't affect me none but if that happened w/ Assassin's Creed or sumthin I'd be a lil pissed :/

You have to install it in chunks either way. I'd rather install it all in one go instead of having ten or so 5 minute installs every couple of hours of gameplay.
I don't mind the size of the update. I'm just confused as to why a 6 GB install would take almost an hour to install if it's straight off the disc.
After I thought about it though, it could be that it takes a little longer for the Blu-ray disc reader to seek the bits and parts of data that needs to be installed rather than just copying all of the data onto the HDD. This is just my theory though.

I agree with you, the Blu-Ray read speeds are slower than a dvd drive, this probably has something to do with it. I mean the Blu-Ray reader has to read 30,000 BITS OF INFO IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. AND THEN JUST FUCKIN LAUGH.
